Moth that looks like a butterfly.........? - Disclisioprocta stellata

Moth that looks like a butterfly.........? - Disclisioprocta stellata
Westminster, Orange County, California, USA
August 18, 2015
Size: approx 1" BL
Found this insect near the porch light at about 9PM. Took these photos, because it looked so unusual. I thought it was a butterfly acting like a moth. It was still on the porch the next morning with its wings held in the same position. I cropped the photos and noted the antennae are moth like. This is not any moth or butterfly that I'm familiar with. Help?

Woodworker, I would never have caught this but I just ID'd one that Skitterbug had suggested this species for. Look at and then look at the "rays" on the wings of this one that Skitterbug identified . Just another educated guess.

Thanks, I think it is Disclisioprocta stellata
I'm pretty sure that it is Disclisioprocta stellata but just don't have the certainty to move the image within BugGuide. I've been confident about a moth ID before..............and been fooled. In my own "virtual" insect collection, I have it identified as such. Thanks

I think that is the appropriate way to handle it. It certainly is not a "cold cocked" ID, and was not intended as such.
