Braconid - Meteorus

Braconid - Meteorus
Horner Pk., Richmond Hill, York Region, Ontario, Canada
June 25, 2015
Size: 3.0 mm
I observed larvae in the process of breaking out from a caterpillar of Lithophane sp., in gory detail. In all, 21 parasitoids emerged. Some of the larvae are already producing silk for their cocoons.

Niceā€¦
Did you record the development time? The developmental duration of M. pulchricornis is about 8-9 days from egg to larval emergence and 6 days from prepupa to adult emergence. Also, if you know the ratio of females to males that emerged, that might be of interest to some scientists (like me).

Forgot to mention...
I forgot to mention what emerged, and when: larvae exited 5 days after the caterpillar was collected, pupal stage lasted 12 days, and all adults were females (19 - two larvae died). Temperature was generally around 74F.

Interesting...
I knew there would be more females, but not that many. Appreciate the info, Stephen.
