Size: 6mm length
Found this guy crawling on my wife while we were at our place in the boonies. 36.66817°N, 121.03458°W; 2493 ft. elevation. Probably a Ixodida tick of some kind?

I think. A close-up of the ventral mouthpart would be helpful if you still have the specimen.
