paurometabolous adjective - development by gradual metamorphosis. In this form of development, immature stages (nymphs) resemble small adults and typically have external wing buds (1). They live in the same habitat as adults, typically taking the same food. The true bugs and allies (Hemiptera) are the most prominent example.
