I should mention that this fly was around 10mm in length, larger than a Toxo*merus. I'll add the info on the size to the photo.

Just a guess: Toxomerus spp?

 
I think not.
Every Toxomerus I've seen - and apparently all the posts here - show a bronze thorax. Yellow face and legs are also different and quite distinctive. (Toxomerus is more towards orange.)

Joe, would it help to have more venation photos posted? (I can probably do that.)
