Size: tiny
My guess is that it is in the Syrphidae family. Any possibility to identify further with this limited information? It is a tiny fly (bee mimic) and it was hovering around some mint flowers. It refused to land, so I decided to try to take a picture of it in flight. I took a zillion pictures, this is the best result. Unbelievably, it seems to have a bite taken out of its abdomen, which didn't seem to slow it down at all. Thoughts? Thanks!

maybe not a bite?
I think that if it's a male syrphid, the terminal segments of the abdomen will be folded under. One of the experts will tell you if that's the case here
