Hover fly in mid-air - Syritta pipiens Arlington, Massachusetts, USA August 27, 2015 Size: tiny
My guess is that it is in the Syrphidae family. Any possibility to identify further with this limited information? It is a tiny fly (bee mimic) and it was hovering around some mint flowers. It refused to land, so I decided to try to take a picture of it in flight. I took a zillion pictures, this is the best result. Unbelievably, it seems to have a bite taken out of its abdomen, which didn't seem to slow it down at all. Thoughts? Thanks!
