Mating pair - Cicindelidia obsoleta - male - female

Mating pair - Cicindelidia obsoleta - Male Female
Watson Lake, Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA
August 9, 2015
Size: at least 15 mm (large)
A few of this species were seen on the ground in grassy habitat near the lake in the late morning.

Great...Thanks for posting this Robyn :-)
I was so intrigued by these guys...a new and interesting species for me. They were larger than any Cicindela I'd ever seen; and unusually hyper-wary...shooting off in such a straight line, and so fast & far...and always seeming to disappear into distant clumps of grass, making them nearly impossible to follow and patiently track. The most difficult to photograph tiger beetles I've encountered.

So I'm glad to be able to study your photo here...as well as Margarethe's image and Alice's habitat shot.

Alice also photographed the other smaller tiger beetle you guys saw there, C. punctulata...in both its "green form" below:

...and also in its "brown form", which can be seen at this Flickr link.

Nice summary of our finds.
Interesting how the flash or lack of affects the colors on the beetles. I think Margarethe's image was natural light.
