Size: ~3-4mm
Goldenrod seem to be the homebase of many small insects. This is one of those creatures that you don't realize look so strange until you can view their photo greatly expanded.

rove beetle
genus Lordithon. It just sits here, maybe to get a better smell of some mushrooms that may grow nearby (its food).
