wasp mimic fly - Spilomyia longicornis

wasp mimic fly - Spilomyia longicornis
Albion, Calhoun County, Michigan, USA
September 7, 2015
I was out in the goldenrod patch photographing wasps. Suddenly one of them got very aggressive and buzzed around me to the point where I started backing away. The next thing I knew it was sitting on my arm. I shook it off but a few seconds later it was back. It didn't sting or bite. I didn't realize it was a fly until a couple of hours ago when I started cropping my pictures. What a nice surprise to have finally seen one of these. I looked it up and it looks like Spilomyia longicornis. Is it usual for these babies to come and sit on your skin? What a beautiful little actor! Its eyes look spread like those of a female, is that right? Thanks for any info on this fly or this behavior!
