Toxomerus Politus - Toxomerus politus

Toxomerus Politus - Toxomerus politus
Licking County, Ohio, USA
August 20, 2004
I'm 99% sure on the ID, but didn't see a guide page so I thought I should post as an ID request just in case.

ID reference is http://www.canacoll.org/Diptera/Staff/Skevington/Syrphidae/Toxomerus/Toxomerus2.jpg
I could find no other photos of this species.
(edit: ID confirmed by Dr. J.H. Skevington)

Nice shot of a rare fly
...or at least an uncommon fly here in Ontario (I'm still waiting to see one). This photo would make a good addition to the Syrphid Guide that you used to ID it, as only pinned specimens are currently pictured.

Yes, nice photo
I actually already received an email from Jeff Skevington asking how to contact Jay in order to request permission to use this photo for the syrphid guide you mentioned. I forwarded the message to Jay and also got a confirmation from Jeff on the id for this photo.

Thank you Troy...
for sending Jeff my way. I'm just glad I was able to help.

BTW, looks like the page I referred to above has been updated and renamed. :-) It's now at:
http://www.canacoll.org/Diptera/Staff/Skevington/Syrphidae/Toxomerus/Toxomerus3.jpg

I second that:-)
A truly lovely portrait. Nice work, Jay.
