Thanks for the ID. I had looked at the Slaty ( p 134 Stokes Guide) but was thrown off by the incomplete blue coloration. Stokes does mention a brown thorax with yellow dorsal stripe on the immatures.

Slaty Skimmer?
I wonder is this is a male Slaty Skimmer who either hasn’t fully developed the pruinose blue coating or has had some of the blue rubbed off. While Slaties can be a lighter blue, they can also be fairly dark colored


A Bigger Mystery
A friend of mine checked Odonata Central and could not find it. The area (Calverton Ponds) the thing was spotted is supposed to host rare dragonflies
