Pseudomalus auratus? - Pseudomalus auratus

Pseudomalus auratus? - Pseudomalus auratus
Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA
May 16, 2015
For the longest time I was looking amongst the bees while trying to identify this one and finding no likely candidates, then finally it dawned on me to search through the wasps.

It really is a gorgeous tiny thing. The smooth coppery orange and the deeply textured cool blue-green are stunning together. I wish I saw more of them but this one's uncommon in my yard.
