Unknown Beetles - Diaperis maculata

Unknown Beetles - Diaperis maculata
Albemarle County, Virginia, USA
Alas, I remember almost nothing about these. It has been 19 years since I took the picture. One beetle from Dillon and Dillon that had similar markings was Endomychus biguttatus, although it lacked any black along the elytral suture. Help with ID appreciated!

Darkling beetles
Believe it or not, these are darkling beetles in the Tenebrionidae! The species is Diaperis maculata. They can be abundant on a certain type of fungus called "chicken of the woods," if memory serves me. It is a large, fleshy fungus found growing at the base of dead trees along dry forest edges.

Thanks, Eric!
Thanks, Eric. It's nice to put a name to this species after all these years!
