Looks like Genus Aristotelia. It would be a first for Rhode Island, but I am not positive of the Genus. I would need confirmation.

Not sure
I've seen what I think are moths in that genus and I've had much more trouble photographing them. This was well over 10mm in length (maybe 15-ish?). I don't think they get big enough, though I might be wrong. If they do, then that might be the right genus. Expert definitely needed. I just went through the MPG plate and nothing struck me as a clear match. See my possible Aristotelia submission below:

Sorry, you did not mention size. At that size it certainly cannot be Aristotelia!

Size comparison
Here's a newly posted Aristotelia (or similarly sized moth, anyway.) I can't get much detail of a moth like that without chilling it and putting it under the microscope.

I went back and checked all of my Aristotelia records. None of them measured over 6 to 6.5 mm and some less. Sorry I cannot be of more help. I used to be interested in getting species ID's on them and collected most of what I saw. I did not have my good camera then. Now I am getting some better pictures, but have lost interest in the Genus for the time being. Studying other things instead.
