Cecidomyiidae on Jewelweed - Schizomyia impatientis

Cecidomyiidae on Jewelweed - Schizomyia impatientis
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
September 4, 2015
August 31, 2015: collected galls but I think the rearing container was too moist and the larvae abandoned the galls.
Will try again.

Not too moist
The larvae need soil to burrow into. Same rearing method as with sawflies.
