Warty Leaf Beetle - Exema canadensis

Warty Leaf Beetle - Exema canadensis
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
May 23, 2007
Size: ~ 3 mm
Found on Solidago sp. Initially looked like caterpillar droppings, but they were so "randomly placed" that I was suspicious - until I noticed the mating pairs. It was a hot day, probably some 85°F, and individuals of almost every species that I found on the Goldenrods were engaged in coupling activity (for the Goldenrod Leaf Miners, especially - every beetle I found was coupling).

Moved from Warty Leaf Beetles. Keyed using Karren (1966)(1).

Haha, excellent. Too "randomly placed." Hope to find these this spring/summer!

Exema
It is probably in the genus Exema

Thanks for the ID
How did you tell it is in that genus? Just wondering.
