Hypochlora alba
Found almost exclusively on
Artemisia ludoviciana
, but occasionally will move on to related plants if something happens to their original host (mowing, cows, or whatever). They are pretty common, but rarely collected. However, if you find a good patch of the host plant, you will probably find the grasshoppers.
It is in the same subfamily as
Melanoplus
, but probably closer to
Hesperotettix
and
Campylacantha
. Long-winged individuals do rarely occur and they can fly quite well.
Grey green like this one is the usual color, but occasionally they are light gray, brown, or somewhat brighter green (seems to depend somewhat on the condition of the host plant when they were growing up).
Moved from
Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids
