H. carolinensis?
Following up on a previous note from Lynette, what's the deal with this specimen? Dondale and others all say "abdominal ventor black"; the one specimen I have looks like the ventral side, from the chelicerae to the distal tips of the spinnerets, was dipped into a pot of black ink.

Hogna coloradensis
Drawing on Slowik & Cushing (2007), this is clearly Hogna coloradensis. They write that the species "can be separated from all other Hogna and Lycosidae by a dark area immediately anterior to the epigastric furrow as well as a small dark area just anterior to the spinnerets; the rest of the venter is light with spots".
