Looks like its prey was another spider.

I wonder if this is a Sassacus. Note the leg patterns, the relative compact body, and closely set eyes.

so, she seems huge in comparison to what he was.

 
If he was a successful suitor
his genes will be passed on in her eggs while his body will serve to nourish those eggs! An interesting arrangement, but I, John, am glad humans don't use it!
