Is this a Tiger Fly (Coenosia humulis)?
It's quite fast and wouldn't let go of its lunch.

Tiger fly looks right (genus)
Appearance and behavior are right on the mark. I don't know about species, however.

Nice angle, nice shot. I realize it was likely next to impossible here, but, on flies, try to get a view of wings from above to show veins.
