Hexagenia bilineata? - Hexagenia bilineata

Hexagenia bilineata? - Hexagenia bilineata
Marietta Ohio - Muskingum River nr. mouth, Washington County, Ohio, USA
September 22, 2015
One of several larvae dredged from bottom sediments in the Muskingum River. Small numbers of subimagos, presumably of the same species, were emerging from the river around 3PM. I've posted a separate image of an adult molted from one of those subimagos.

Hexagenia bilineata
Hi Dave-

Yes, based on its tarsal claw with a basal bulge on inner curve, which can be clearly seen on middle legs in your photo, I believe it to be Hexagenia bilineata.

Thanks.
Thanks again, Roger. I was a little more confident with the larvae than the adult, and I got pretty used to seeing H. limbata in McCafferty's lab when Keltner was working with them. Nice thing about being in that lab was I never had to worry about identifying anything as I could always check with McCafferty, Waltz, Provonsha or Bae. Lot easier to be an ecologist with that kind of backup.
