other fourth-instar larvae
in having a distinctively darker head.

from what you tell me
about the habitat, and what I can see, I would feel comfortable saying this is Oc. canadensis

Emerged yesterday
I have confirmed the identity of this larva from the emerged adult male. It is actually an
Oc. japonicus
, based on its patterning: distinctive scutum pattern and light bands only basally on the hind tarsomeres. Not a surprise since this was the second
japonicus
male to emerge. I have already posted images of the former.
