Probably Not a Valley Carpenter Bee Female - Xylocopa tabaniformis - male

Probably Not a Valley Carpenter Bee Female - Xylocopa tabaniformis - Male
Sunnyvale (Bay Area), Santa Clara County, California, USA
May 27, 2007
Spotted nearly the same time and place as a male Valley Carpenter Bee. It does not look like the pictures I have seen of the female VCB, however. It's not the greatest view, but perhaps someone could recognize this species. Note the white or nearly white markings near the head.

Xylocopa tabaniformis orpifex

Thanks John, That is it without a doubt!
Another Male! You can recognize the large eyes for what they are If you have seen them from the pictures you pointed to!
