Sirthenea carinatus - Sirthenea carinata

Sirthenea carinatus - Sirthenea carinata
Parsons Run, Duluth, Fulton County, Georgia, USA
May 21, 2004
Attracted to my backyard mercury vapor lamp. This large assassin got my attention and respect. Having had painful encounters with other assassins, I was actually quite nervous photographing it.

Identification based on Patrick's photos and guide.

I know what you mean
When I was shooting this fella down in Florida:

He flew off of the grass and onto me, it took a second for me to realize where it went (you know how your eyes need a second to re-adjust when your watching everything thru a viewfinder)...
Long story short - I used a stick to lure him off, but he kept flying back onto me! I think it might have been attracted to the light clothing. Needless to say I had to keep an eye on him, and make sure he was back on the grass before I left:P
