Hobomok Skipper - Poanes hobomok? - Poanes hobomok

Hobomok Skipper - Poanes hobomok? - Poanes hobomok
Long Branch Nature Center, Arlington County, Virginia, USA
June 2, 2013

Yes, Hobomok Skipper male
Moved from Grass Skippers.

Poanes zabulon (male)

In my opinion this is Poanes zabulon with the "orange curling outward" on the outer angle of the HW and also no black veins on the HW.

My initial thought was Zab but
the border of the FW is broad since the cell end bar does not go to the leading edge. Whereas with Zabulon the cell end bar usually transects the border to the leading edge thus forming an isolated distal patch.
The HW lines appear faint or blown out which is probably due to light exposure.

I'm not really sure I understand what you're referring to.
How is your characteristic shown in the above image of P. zabulon?

The FW cell end bar completely transects the border to the
leading edge. In this image the separation of the border at the tip is not as distinct as most Zabulon exhibit but does show the line to the edge. In Hobomok, the cell end bar line turns distal at the border rather than transecting it..

Thank You
I appreciate your time in explaining this to me.
