This was identified using the pattern on the sternites which is a perfect match for the image in Skevington`s Field Guide- page 455.
Compare the rolled abdomen and the orange/yellow markings receding (ie. gently curving forward) towards side edges.....
How reliable the colour of front and middle tarsi is a feature, I am not certain so I settled with Parasyrphus.
