Photographed at a blacklight in a residential yard on Sanibel Island. Notwithstanding the remark on MPG that, "It is likely that mapping records [of Parilexia proditata] from central and northern Florida represent misidentifications," I can come up with no better fit for this moth. The uniformly speckled brown wings, with vague red-brown crossbands on the FW, and the combination of black cell dots on the FW and cream dots on the HW seem to be distinctive among anything illustrated on MPG. This would represent an addition to the guide.

I note that on the MPG page for Antillean Lepidoptera Plate 05.1, Rayner Nunez's images of this critter are labeled "Parilexia proditata group", implying that there may be closely similar species in that region.

Edit Note: Based on Ferguson's 2009 paper on this group of species [cite:1153975], this represents the first report of the genus on the west coast of Florida and the northernmost record to date. Two other very similar species, P. nicetaria and P. antilleata, are thus far known only from the Keys. (My thanks to Steve Nanz for providing access to that paper.)
