Springtail - Neanura persimilis

Springtail - Neanura persimilis
Natchaug State Forest, Connecticut, USA
September 15, 2015
Size: 1.6 mm
under bark of oak log in forest

Moved
Moved from Neanura.

A new species for the Guide. Very cool.

Neanura persimilis
is the best match. It is a close relative of N. muscorum. Some authors considered it as a form of muscorum. But recently it is considered as a genuine species.

Moved

Neanura sp.

Moved for expert attention
Moved from ID Request. Looks like another Neanuridae.

Amazing shot!
How did you accomplish such great lighting and focus???

closeup lighting
Diane, I use a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens, like you do, and the macro twin-lite flash on a Canon EOS Mark III 1Ds. The light is diffused through two layers of tracing paper. Then I add a little sharpening in photoshop.
