Mimosa Yellow - Pyrisitia nise

Mimosa Yellow - Pyrisitia nise
n.w. Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
October 14, 2015
Size: FW 15 mm.
I first saw this butterfly in flight in my backyard at about 4:20 p.m. and was able to study it live for several seconds, convincing me that I had a Mimosa Yellow rather than Little Yellow. I lost sight of it before I could retrieve my camera, but refound the butterfly, in weakened condition, at about 6:30 p.m. I photographed it in situ on leaf litter, then collected the moribund butterfly. I subsequently photographed the upperside of the wings.

This was a first for my yard and a noted rarity in the Austin area. Durden's Austin checklist (1990 ed.) shows less than 10 occurrences here.
