Yellow beetle - Cotalpa lanigera

Yellow beetle - Cotalpa lanigera
Carlisle, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
June 6, 2007
Size: overall 3/4 inch long
Found on front door mat after the outside light had been on all night. Closest I can get with possible ID is some kind of Cotalpa. Any ideas?

Central wisco white goldsmith
Found while tilling in the garden early spring. It has a beautiful opal sheen. As wide as my index finger.

Thanks
Thanks very much David. I should have looked further. It's a very beautiful beetle - the blue-green of the legs is more vivid than comes through in the photos.

I too found one like that one as kid in Bedford Mass.
They must grow on the greener side in Mass. As another photo shows the green too. It was my unknown Jewel Beetle.

The Web is great! and this site too!

beautiful indeed
It really does look like a wonderful beetle. I haven't been lucky enough to find one, but your beautiful images will tide me over until I meet one in person. Great work!
