This is what is known as the 'red eye' stage of pupal development of many whiteflies; the eye pigments are present, and other structures, such as the general outline of the adult head, and the wing pads (white), are differentiated. Apolysis, or separation of the adult cuticle from the pupal cuticle, is either imminent or underway. This species is almost entirely host-restricted to Ficus spp., which are very limited in zones outside of the tropics or subtropics.
