Alcaeorrhynchus grandis

Alcaeorrhynchus grandis
Circle B Bar Reserve , Polk County, Florida, USA
June 15, 2014
I think this could be Alcaeorrhynchus grandis.
FIRST INSTAR = these are difficult to distinguish from the first instar nymphs of Euthyrhynchus floridanus (Linnaeus): both have a blue-black head and thorax and red abdomen. FAIL on red abdomen
SECOND INSTAR = has become more uniformly brownish with faint markings on the abdomen. FAIL on the brownish part with faint markings on abdomen.
THIRD INSTAR = has acquired red lateral keels on the pronotum and is generally bluish black with a brown abdomen. FAIL on the brownish abdomen.
FOURTH INSTAR = lager keels on pronotum, wing pads visible but not prominent, general color is bluish black. PASS on the general color.
FIFTH AND FINAL INSTAR = has distinct wing pads and very large red keels. FAIL on the distinct wing pads.

This has led me to the conclusion it is in its 4th instar.

Just wondering...
... could you share your doubts on the instar analysis or positives on the instar analysis or your doubts that it is not A. Grandis?

Some editors
may not be experts, they may just move images closer to a location where an expert in some particular field will look at it. Because you didn't properly crop this image experts may not bother looking at it, or they may just frass it. If you want people to give your images more attention it is best to follow the site's instructions and crop your images close to "just the bug" before posting them.

Yes
I know you guys have a lot of problems with cropping of images so I will tag another image but it is fuzzy just to let you know.
