Pogonomyrmex barbatus - Pogonomyrmex Frederick, Weld County, Colorado, USA November 4, 2015 Size: 1 cm or a bit smaller
Working bare track (due to human activity over summer) up steep bank to a reservoir (with rocky steep shores). Track steep, sandy soil with many tiny rocks. Surrounding area weedy, grassy unkempt area near a marsh with smattering of Russian Olives. Stream of ants working up and down hillside, all pretty much colored the same; any differences in shape subtle; some quite narrow at anterior abdomen. Mound about 1 foot to 18 inches high was entry to nest
