Hudsonian Whiteface - Leucorrhinia hudsonica - male

Hudsonian Whiteface - Leucorrhinia hudsonica - Male
Anthony Lakes, Baker County, Oregon, USA
June 25, 2002
Along the trail from Anthony Lake to Hoffer Lake, the opening in the woods were alive with Whitefaces. Does this seem to be a young male?

Leucorrhinia
This dragonfly has a triple row of cells just beyond the forewing triangle. Leucorrhinia hudsonica has a double row. I think this is Leucorrhinia proxima.

Interesting -
We haven't looked at the wing venation before. How solid is that characteristic? We see some with three rows identified as proxima, but the is also one with two rows identified as proxima by Dennis Paulson!
