Do you need one of these too? - Xylophanes tersa

2 days ago I found the green form of this caterpillar on the ground at my house, near some potted pentas. Today I found the brown form on one of the pentas. I didn't know you could get both colors at the same time and same place. What determines which color they will be? I didn't know how to offer you the photo of the brown one in case you needed it other than to do the id request although I now know it is a Tersa Sphinx Caterpillar. All in all I found 3 more of them today but this was the only brown one. For future reference, how do I offer a photo I think you might want but I already know the id?
