Elfin Forest Seed Bug? - Zelus longipes

Elfin Forest Seed Bug? - Zelus longipes
Los Osos, San Luis Obispo County, California, USA
June 2, 2007
Size: .5 inch
This was at an elfin forest--an oak forest miniturized by constant wind and salt spray from the ocean. Los Osos is mid way between SF and LA. Thanks for your help!

Zelus longipes --det. D. Forero
Moved from Assassin Bugs.

Zelus? hard to believe...
see somewhat similar bug here -- maybe misplaced?

assassin bug
(Reduviidae)

Thanks, Boris!
Thanks, Boris. With your help I was able to further define the insect as a Bee Assasin (Apiomerus crassipes.) Thank-you.

Wait!
This is NOT an Apiomerus, but that said, I am not at all certain what genus it belongs in. Looks closer to a species of Zelus, but have not seen one with that particular coloration, unless it is a melanic form of Z. longipes. Stay tuned....

Assassin bug
Hi Eric, Thanks for helping me figure this out. Here's why I was thinking Bee Assassin http://bugguide.net/node/view/59305

Ah! But notice how much more delicate
your creature is! Long delicate legs, etc, as compared to stocky football player of a bug you linked to. The Zelus are long and lanky as yours is.
