Size is from tip of abdomen to tip of head. Wings extend past tip of abdomen at rest.

Species ID?
Hi, Scott. I agree that your owlfly is genus Ululodes, but could you provide some additional information as to how you identified it to species? Thanks!

Weird - eyes seem to follow you
They look like they have discrete and different parts, instead of being compound eyes. They are compound eyes, aren't they? (Medfly eyes are a bit like these.)

Flash artefact?
Perhaps the eyes are semi-transparent. The reflection of the flash would then appear as a floating image within.
