This is a beautiful V. crabro nest which is being compared to a one-gallon milk jug to show its large size. You should be able to easily tell the difference between a bald-faced "hornet" nest and a European hornet nest. A typical bald-faced "hornet" nest is greyish in color with tough carton and an European hornet nest is tannish/brownish in color with brittle carton (which is similar to some Vespula species).
