Eastern Tent Caterpillar - Cocoon - Malacosoma americanum

Eastern Tent Caterpillar - Cocoon - Malacosoma americanum
Richmond Hill, York Region, Ontario, Canada
June 4, 2007
Eggs, larvae, adults all covered for this very common species ... but no cocoons yet, it seems, so here's an image of a typical one.
Usually found on tree trunks, crevices, or in this case, on structures (usually along edges or corners). The cocoons are impregnated with a yellow powder which gives them their color.

Pupation
Hello Stephen,

How long does Malacosoma americanum stay in its pupal stage? I just found the pupa I was rearing, and was wondering when I should expect it to eclose.
Thanks!

Pupation.
I am uncertain how long it takes. Perhaps a week or two--where I live, adults become common in early June.

Thanks!
Thanks Stephen! I will check it very frequently, then!
