Hermit Beetle

Hermit Beetle
Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri, USA
July 4, 2011
Size: 3/4 - 1 inch
Large beetle I believe to be the Russian Leather Beetle or Hermit Scarab. Can anyone give a positive ID to species?

Frassed
Moved from Osmoderma.

Moved from ID Request.

Was it actually on the flower, or did you pose it there?

It was actually on the flower. I remember being shocked that a beetle this size was balanced precariously on top of that coneflower.

Osmoderma sp.
MO might be in that grey area between subplanata and eremicola.
