Head-down on trunk of dead hickory (image rotated 90 degrees). The wasp's abdomen appears laterally flattened.

These are not commonly seen insects.

Moved from Ibalia to species page. Apparently, the only other eastern species (I. leucospoides) has a black head and thorax, and an unmarked dark red abdomen.
