November 21, 2015
Size: Forewing length ca. 3 mm
This is a male individual of Bucculatrix anaticula (Bucculatricidae) that was collected as an immature in a cocoon on the larval host plant, redroot, Ceanothus herbaceus (Rhamnaceae), by M. J. Hatfield, on 25 September 2015, at Red Oak Prairie in Allamakee County, Iowa, USA. The moth emerged as an adult on 21 November 2015. Genital morphology (see linked image) reveals it to be B. anaticula, as opposed to a similar and potentially sympatric Ceanothus-feeding species, B. disjuncta.
