Probably Crocidosema plebejana
This looks like a male
C. plebejana
but can't be sure there are no other possibilities.

Thanks Steve
I agree that this is a male
C. plebejana
. It is a good fit for the few male images available for comparison. The other series of images that I have been calling plebejana are the females. The info page for
C. plebejana
states that this species is sexually dimorphic.
It is also likely that at least some of the images recently moved from Epinotia perplexana to the Crocidosema genus page are also male
C. plebejana
.
Do you think it is safe to move this moth to the species page?

I think so
The only reason I did not move this to
plebejana
is that Michael has reservations. I moved similar images to
plebejana
from CA because no other
Crocidosema
species are known there. In Florida there may be other possibilities.

Probably not E. parmatana
This appears to be the same species as what is being posted under Epinotia [Crocidosema] perplexana. But I'm not sure those are correctly identified.

Agree
This fits better with the images under Epinotia [Crocidosema] perplexana. Also, the food plant, cowpea, is in my yard, and the type specimen was taken only 30 miles away from my site. The image seems to fit Fernald's (1901) description well.
Thanks for the correction.

3274 – Crocidosema plebejana
There is a good chance that all the images in
perplexana
are a dark form of
Crocidosema plebejana
. They match those at MPG
here
and BOLD as shown in BIN
BOLD:AAA7084
. There do not appear to be any BOLD images of
plebejana
but the type specimen is available at Tortricid.net
here
. The dark form of
perplexana
is noticeably different.
I recommend no action just yet. I'm waiting for expert confirmation. If confirmed, I'll do batch move.

Interesting
I assume the last two uses of species names in your comment should be reversed.
I have another series of images that I have been calling
plebejana
. The overall body shape of this moth from the dorsal perspective is different than
plebejana
. Perhaps there is sexual dimorphism?
It will be interesting to see what an expert has to say.

Crocidosema
Michael Sabourin is no longer sure what Ken Child's example is, so I moved all the
perplexana
images to genus.
