Explanation of Names
Monopis longella (Walker, 1863), previously treated as a synonym of Monopis monachella (Hübner, 1796) in Meyrick (1894) and the 1983 Hodges Checklist, includes as a synonym Monopis pavlovskii Zagulajev, 1955, Zool. J. Linn. Soc. 63(1): 6. This synonymy was overlooked until recently.
Monopis pavlovskii corrects spelling of pavlovski.
Size
WS ~12–14mm
Identification
Head: Head white to pale yellow. Palpi long, folded, darker on underside.
Antenna: 1st half dark, rest lighter. Segment 1 yellow.
Thorax: White to pale yellow.
Wings: Dark brown with dashed intermittent white to pale yellow scales and 3 white marks along wing tip. Wings have 3 to 5 tufts along inner border. Large white to pale yellow patch with diagonal edge extends from mid wing to tip on costal edge. Patch encompasses the round semi-hyaline circle (typical of Monopis) and another larger stained patch along costa.
Legs: Dark, except hind foot white

Range
Introduced from Asia, this species has spread throughout eastern US and Canada.
Type locality (Monopis longella): North Hindostan, India.
Type locality (Monopis pavlovskii): former USSR.
Season
Most records are April through October. July to September in north.
Food
Animal hair and feathers, usually live in bird nests. (Huang et al., 2011)
Remarks
Monopis longella is a member of the Monopis monachella species complex (see Huang et al. 2011) which is currently represented at BOLD by the following BIN groups (5/26/2019). It would appear that a revision of this complex may be needed:
