Looks like a male
Herschel has said our golden orange ones are part of the Laphria index - index complex. Don't know if that will be true for yours or not. Images in the guide here

I think you are right! Is it possible that this fly can look more gold at some point in its life? I swear that I saw a similar fly 2-3 weeks ago and it was totally gold.
