Paraleptophlebia
sh11-

Yes, this mayfly nymph is of genus Paraleptophlebia.

However, I am quite surprised to see mandibular tusks on a Paraleptophlebia nymph from Ontario.

To my knowledge, only (4) Western North American species have them, P. bicornuta, P. helena, P. packii, and P. zayante.

Thanks for confirming the genus Roger-
how interesting that tusks are unexpected on a nymph of this genus this far east!

Sorry for the whiplash. At first glance, I also thought it was a damselfly. However, with those abdominal gills I suspect it might actually be a mayfly. The aquatic experts will know.

Thanks for the feedback Ken-
I apologize for leading you astray by using titling my image 'Zygoptera nymph'...I'm glad that you were able to alert me to my misidentification.

It is a mayfly nymph, early instar
Leptophlebiidae:Paraleptophlebia

Thanks so much
for your help with my ID request Jeffrey!
