Mole Crab - Emerita talpoida
Ormond Beach, Volusia County, Florida, USA
August 5, 2014
I saw dozens of their little eyes poking out of the sand when the waves were washing back into the ocean

Moved from Emerita. Source (p. 433).

Moved
Moved from Atlantic Mole Crab.

What about Emerita benedicti?
They're both in your area and I have no idea how to tell them apart. Certainly that genus.

I'll move it
Just to be safe. I saw Gulf of Mexico as the range for Emerita benedicti, so I thought that ruled it out. But after looking into it more it looks like you are right, and it is in range for both

I thought it was just in the Gulf of Mexico too
When I first heard of it, but there is a record from South Carolina on WoRMS, my go to site for marine species taxonomy and ranges.

If it is benedicti
That would be even more exciting because its not in the guide yet!
