Carabidae - Tanystoma maculicolle

Carabidae - Tanystoma maculicolle
Paramount Ranch, Los Angeles County, California, USA
December 11, 2015
This beetle is very common adjacent to the town. If you flip over rocks that is.

It reminds me of Calathus ruficollis, and I thought these might be a brown margined variant on that species, but I can't find a match.

The ventral side is entirely black, except for the reddish thorax and head.
