Common Wood-Nymph
Hi, Joy

I'm not an expert, but I would guess this is a Common Wood-nymph. I've found this species in Multnomah County, Oregon from late July to mid August.

Here's an example of a similar one in South Dakota (thought probably a different subspecies): http://bugguide.net/node/view/1135318/bgimage.

And here's an example of a Common Wood-nymph found just south of your location: https://www.flickr.com/photos/127388251@N04/20141466869/in/album-72157646604149063/.

Hi Phil - Thanks! I also enjoyed reading about the distribution and natural history of the Common Wood-Nymph in Bob Pyle's book The Butterflies of Cascadia. Joy
