Mardon Skipper
Habitat, season, and locale are a match as well as the distinct basal foot of the stigma.

Moved from Woodland Skipper.

Thanks Cliff.....
that took some amazing detective work. I still haven't been able to find any illustrations of its anatomy. Joy

I added an info page
Click on "Info" and go to internet references then click "Butterflies of America" for images of Mardon Skipper.

Cliff - Thanks....
for the info page and the link to "Butterflies of America" - excellent information. I esp. enjoyed learning the food plants and seeing a photo of the caterpillar. Joy

Woodland skipper male
Moved from Grass Skippers.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

This one is confusing
Certainly looks like Woodland with closed chevron spot pattern above but flight usually occurs in late July. Rural Skipper is similar with May - June flight but chevron pattern above is typically open.

Ochlodes sylvanoides ...
aka the Woodland Skipper.
